London! We have made it safe and sound to our first destination of the trip: London, England. This morning we landed at London Heathrow Airport around 8:00 AM local time or 3:00 AM EST. Needless to say we all were a bit jet-lagged but everyone was excited to finally begin our England tour.
Soon after we landed, we were met by our XL travel directors who took us straight to the Queens Park Rangers training grounds just near the airport for a quick training session to “shake off the jet-lag.” Possession and quick ball movement were the focus during small team games and finishing drills at the beautiful park. After a shower and a few photos (coming soon to the blog), we boarded our bus again and set our sights on London.
Our trip into London allowed us to see a few of the famous landmarks including Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and the London Eye, all of which we will get to see again, later in our trip. But for the day, our stop took us to Covent Garden to experience some great food and dive into the London street culture. We were able to venture off on our own and walk through the local shops, pubs, and even watch a street performer or two in Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus.
As our day winded to an end, the team enjoyed a great dinner at a local Italian restaurant just before heading back towards the hotel for a well-deserved night’s sleep. It is safe to say our first day was a success and the boys are quite excited for the days to come!
