Well, the team is back in the States and ready for the 2014 season. We enjoyed our stay in England and take with us memories and experiences we will surely hold close for the rest of our lives. But, it is time to begin a new year and a new season. With the trip and a successful preseason under our belts, we Fighting Scots are ready to give it our all out on the turf at John P. Papp Stadium. Go Scots!
Day 7 of our trip took the team to the historic city of York in north east of England to visit the famous York Minster and walk The Shambles. We left from Manchester in the early morning and arrived in York to see the famous Roman Walls that surround the city. After a short walk, we arrived at the main attraction, York Minster, the largest gothic cathedral in Northern Europe. The size and beauty of the building was quite breathtaking as the boys filed in to explore. Each massive section within the Minster was was covered in beautiful stone and wood work and accented beautifully by stained glass windows that stretched over 20 feet in diameter. However, the highlight of the visit was the journey to the top of the York Minster tower for scenic views of York from the top of the cathedral.
Can you believe it? Day 6 of our England tour is in the books. As we inch closer to the end of our trip and the beginning of preseason, the team traveled across the Manchester area for an exciting day chalked full of soccer.
Now that we have left London, what's next? Check out the trip itinerary from our wonderful friends at XL below:
Our trip to White Hart Lane on day four was definitely amazing, but day five promised to be just as incredible. After a well-deserved late morning, the boys loaded the bus en route to Wembley Stadium for the Community Shield match between two premier league powerhouses, Arsenal and Manchester City.
The morning of day four brought the team our first game of the trip against the reserves of sixth division Metropolitan Police FC. Our team traveled to their beautiful pitch bright and early in the morning for the midday match. Not only was this a great challenge, but it was the first time the squad has played a full 11 v 11 game this pre-season.
Day three of our tour took us to some of the most famous tourist destinations of London. We started our day with walking tour that began just near Buckingham Palace. Unfortunately, the Queen wasn’t in to greet us, but we were able to still snap a few photos of the historic building. From Buckingham Palace, we walked down the Mall, a red road leading to the Palace, on our way to Trafalgar Square. While in Trafalgar Square, we were able to catch some floating street performers entertaining the crowds just in front of the fountains.
Day two took us to one of the most famous soccer stadiums in the world: Wembley Stadium. We left early in the morning to catch the first tour of the day that took us through the inner workings of the stadium, including the dressing rooms and the media room, as well as right down pitch side. We were also able to see a 70,000 pound silver replica of the FA cup right in the spot where the winner is crowned each year. However, of all the sights and sounds, the most interest bit of information came when our tour guide explained what Wembley has that no other stadium or building in the world has: 2,618 toilets.
